Day 1
2 hours drive, 4 hours walk and observations, hilly
An early start from Fianarantsoa, our final destination for this morning is the Sahambavy tea plantation. Mrs Fideline will welcome us and guide us through the different machines used during the different stages of tea processing. After having witnessed the journey of the tea from the fresh leaves until the tea bags ready for packaging and export, we will taste the different qualities of tea. Then we will head out among the tea gatherers doing their work and walk through the huge plantation decorated by a beautiful landscape. After a short walk through the plantations, we take the car back to the main road and head to Ranomafana National Park (‘Ranomafana’ means ‘hot water’ in Malagasy). After a 1h 30min drive, passing some waterfalls down the Tanala cliffs, we will finally arrive at the entrance of the park. We will settle at the edge of the national park for a picnic lunch and set up the camp for the night. In the afternoon, you will leave from here for the first 4-hour hike, accompanied by a local guide. You will encounter the incredible biological diversity of this wonderful tropical rainforest, managed by Madagascar National Parks. The day ends with a night walk along the road side to observe the crepuscular and nocturnal animals such as mouse lemurs, chameleons, frogs, ... Once the night walk is over, we will return to the campsite. The sounds of the surrounding nature will lull you to a good night's sleep! Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite at the park entrance.Day 2
7 hours walk and very hilly, 2 hours drive back to Fianarantsoa
After an early start, we will depart straight after breakfast. On the programme of your hike for today is a rendezvous with different diurnal species of lemurs, amphibians and insects of all kinds, as well as discovering an exuberant fauna, always ready to amaze your imagination. 12 different species of lemurs live here, including the very recently (1986) discovered Golden bamboo lemur, and two other species of Bamboo Lemur. Several circuits in the forest will lead you to a protected wild area during the course of a 6 hour walk. Picnic lunch in the forest. After lunch, we will start our descent toward the village; this descent is quite steep in places. No details found.
